Published on 1 Jun 2012 – Documentary about the greatest public ceremony of the twentieth century. As well as recounting the events of Coronation Day, 2nd June 1953, this programme focuses on the months of meticulous planning beforehand. What took place behind the scenes is told using diaries, letters, official records and government papers, together with much rare, evocative archive. There are interviews with historians and experts on royal ceremonial as well as participants in the ceremony.
The Coronation was an immense challenge – the views of forceful personalities from die-hard traditionalists to forward-thinking innovators had to be reconciled, the movements of thousands had to be marshalled like clockwork, and the BBC had to mount its most ambitious television outside broadcast to date in the teeth of prime minister Winston Churchill’s opposition.
At the centre of it all was the 27-year-old Queen, bearing an immense responsibility while remaining apparently calm and unperturbed throughout.
This is a story of precision planning, last minute nerves and an ancient ceremony which brought together church, state, aristocracy and monarchy in a glorious panoply – the like of which will never be seen again.
Transmitted: 31st May 2012
This film footage is from the Archive Collection held by the Alexandra Palace Television Society.

Consultation Event on April 11th
Another thank you to all those residents who took part in the consultation event yesterday. We had a further 191 people attend the event, as well as some who came on Saturday and wanted to visit again, making a total of 450 people over the two days. The feedback from you all was once again excellent. For those of you who took questionnaires away to complete at home please drop them into the Cricklade Town Council offices when you next pass or, if you did not pick up a questionnaire do remember that one can be completed online on this website. We were delighted to see so many people involving themselves in the consultation and hope that this will result in lots of feedback for the Steering Group to consider.

Potholes
Cricklade Community Hub (Campus) Update.

POTHOLES

As a result of the recent extreme weather conditions, there have been a significant number of potholes reported. I have toured Cricklade and surrounding area with a Highways Engineer and logged the incidences. It is futile to carry out the required repairs whilst we have the current cold weather as the repair will soon break up again. A programme to remedy the situation will be put in place once the current cold snap has ended. If you spot a pot hole, please report it via CLARENCE on the Wiltshire Council web site; http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/parkingtransportandstreets/highwaysreportingform

45+ Unit Extra Care Facility – Position Statement

In January 2011, Wiltshire Council adopted an older person’s accommodation development strategy in order to ensure that the ageing population’s care and support accommodation needs were met in appropriate, modern and fit-for-purpose facilities. This strategy identified the requirement for a new circa 50 unit extra care housing scheme within the Cricklade area. A Working Group was established under the Shadow Community Operations Board, which reports to the Area Board, in order to progress this development. This included the identification of a suitable location.
Members of the Working Group, with the support of Wiltshire Council officers, identified a number of potential sites for consideration for the new extra care housing scheme in Cricklade. Following preliminary investigation, the Working Group agreed to discount 6 sites, continue to monitor 2 locations and undertake further analysis and investigation on 3 sites. Due to the historic nature of Cricklade and the number of archeologically significant locations, detailed discussions will be required with English Heritage to progress this.

The Working Group will reconvene early in the summer when it is anticipated that further information will have been obtained to enable the group to assess the practicability, suitability and appropriateness of the sites in question.

Cricklade Community Hub (Campus) Update;

The Shadow Community Operating Board is working closely with the appointed architects to develop the design proposals for the Stones Lane site. This involves detailed discussions with all key stakeholders who currently and possibly will use the venue as a community hub. Once the plans have been formulated they will be available for wider public consultation and input. I am pleased to report that there has been positive feedback from the recently distributed leaflet explaining the community hub (campus) concept in more detail.

If you have any questions please email: CampusConsultation@wiltshire.gov.uk

SURGERY
I hold regular surgeries in my office which is situated within the Town Council offices. If you have an issue you think I can help you with, please make contact and I will arrange a suitable date and time with you. I am asked to tackle some very sensitive issues, these take time to resolve and I do have to stress that sometimes it is difficult to get an instant result and that due process needs to be followed.
