Bristol Canoe Adventurers set off from Cricklade

Four fans of Bristol Rugby Club will set off from Cricklade next Wednesday – August 25th. and they aim to arrive at their destination of Greenwich around midday on Saturday, August 28.

They will be canoeing for around 12 hours each day, covering 165 miles in 72 hours, and carrying their heavy boats and kit around 44 locks – all with the aim of helping Bristol’s academy to continue to produce talented young rugby players.

Expedition leader and BRIS Trust member George Campbell said: “The Thames is a forgotten classic paddle. From Cricklade to Teddington it’s non-tidal and, provided you follow the rules of the river, is fairly innocuous. But from Teddington to Greenwich it’s tidal and is classified as maritime waters, which are potentially very dangerous.
