Walkers from Cricklade participated in the first of the ICONIC walks Challenge 2013 – A 2013 Wiltshire Challenge. These walks are designed not only to help ones activity level, but also increase your knowledge of the great county of Wiltshire.
Meeting at the Avebury Club with all the other walkers from Wiltshire for the registration and pre – walk information. A long walk approx. 6.5 miles and a short walk approx. 3.5 miles had been organised by the volunteer Walk Leaders for Calne, Chippenham and Corsham . There were 50 participants for the short walk and 68 for the long walk. A total of approx. 600 miles walked !.
The Route for the long walk was circular, mainly field walking taking in Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, The Sanctuary and Avebury Stone Circles
The walk leader was Paul Kassell, with the help of Alan Robert (assistant Walk Leader), Judith Slee, Charles Clisby, with Lee Benke and Sue Lovett (back Markers). Visiting walk Leaders assisted in their hi-vis jackets.
All were counted out and all were counted in. The volunteer organisers should be congratulated for a successful and enjoyable safe event.
This was the first event of the Iconic Walks Challenge 2013.

Friday July 19th. 2013 led by the Cricklade / Royal Wootton Bassett groups. – Historical Walks.
Wednesday 14th. August 2013 led by the Warminster/ Westbury groups. – Westbury White Horse Walks.
Thursday 12th. September 2013 . Corsham Court. Free buffet lunch.

The Cricklade Walking Group meets every Friday at 9.30 am. at the Cricklade Town Council Offices in the High Street for an hour Health walk.
