Renewed appeal after cyclist seriously injured in crash in Cricklade

Wiltshire PoliceOfficers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team (SCIT) are re-appealing for information after a cyclist was seriously injured following a crash in Cricklade last week.
As originally reported the 66 year old man from the Bath area was flown to Frenchay Hospital with serious head injuries after losing control of his bike and during a time trial event in Cricklade on Saturday 13th July.
The incident happened around 7:10pm. For unknown reasons the man lost control whilst negotiating Calcutt roundabout during the organised time-trial event on the A419 around Cricklade. It is believed he hit a kerb and was thrown into a deep culvert.
Although he was wearing a cycle helmet he sustained serious head injuries during the fall. He currently remains in a serious condition at Frenchay Hospital.
Officers are keen to trace any further witnesses to the crash and in particular people who drove from the A419 into the village and stopped to speak to event marshals on the start / finish line.
Anyone with further information or who did stop and speak with marshals is asked to contact the PC Alan Hunt of the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101. Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if they wish.
