If you wish to learn more about the history of Cricklade, and also enjoy being outside, we might have just the project for you to get involved with. Between 20th and 27th August there will be a geophysical survey taking place in Long Close and the team running the project are looking for local volunteers (aged over 18) to assist with setting up the meters and probes that will be able to detect buried remains and ditches under Long Close.
If you have some time on your hands we would be very appreciative of your support. Further details are available from John Samways on 01793 751217.
Long and Hall Close was transferred to Cricklade Town Council in March 2011 for £1.00 see report at http://wp.me/pPhCq-uS
Chair of the Town Council, Councillor David Tetlow said at the time: “This is a special moment for the town. Local people have asked the Town Council to do what it can to make sure that the land is retained for local people to enjoy for years to come. We are very grateful to Taylor Wimpey to have passed the land back. Our next move will be to talk more about what residents they would like to see happen and with other interested groups such as English Heritage.”
