Cricklade Health Group – Starters for Eleven

wfh-accredited-scheme-2013Following the success of the Cricklade Health Walking Group, the “Get Wiltshire Walking” inspired a starter group to be formed. This is a great way to begin to be more physically active. Last Friday the 7th. February, meeting at 10.00am the first starter walk enrolled eleven members.

After registration each received a free ICE  (In Case of Emergency)Card.
Everyone should be independently mobile and able to meet the demands of the walk, which was a level stroll along Waylands and up the High Street  along Calcutt Street to The United Church Hall for refreshments.

The regular walking group met  at 9.30am on Friday at the Cricklade Town Council Offices to walk for approximately an hour along Stones Lane to Hailstone House and then returned to the Cricklade United Church for refreshments with the participants of the Starter Walk..

Everyone is welcome, providing you are independently mobile and able to meet the physical demands of the walk. It’s free and fun. Just turn up at Cricklade Town Council Offices  on Friday at 9.30 am/10.00am for the Strollers), or contact the walk leader below. Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted on the walks.

Police and Crime Commissioner consultation starts 6th. January – Monday 5th. February 2014

Angus1Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Wiltshire and Swindon Angus Macpherson is consulting on the police and crime element of council tax for 2014-15.
The Commissioner is considering an increase in the police and crime element of council tax of £3.15 a year for the average home (band D property). This to help reduce the impact of significant central government grant reductions on policing and crime services in Wiltshire and Swindon.

The consultation will run from Monday 6 January 2014 – Monday 3 February 2014. During this time the Commissioner and members of his office will be attending Wiltshire Council Area Boards and Swindon Borough Council Locality meetings to talk with people about the proposal.

St Sampson’s Infant School in Cricklade is set to close.

Cricklade St Sampson’s Junior School governing body met on Tuesday 10th. and the infant school governing body on Wednesday 11th. December 2013 and both bodies voted unanimously to go to consultation on the motion for St Sampson’s Infant School to close and St Sampson’s CE Junior School to expand to become St Sampson’s CE Primary School, and the Junior School Governing Body also voted unanimously to go to consultation to expand the Junior School to form the new St Sampson’s CE Primary School.

 In this letter it is state that We ( The governors ) have now started working with Wiltshire Council and the Diocese of Bristol to make this procedure as quick as possible, and we envisage that the consultation process will start in the New Year. Please be assured that all stakeholders including parents, staff and the local community will be invited to take part in the consultation process which will include public meetings for views and questions to be raised. A record number of the Cricklade Health Walkers congregated at the Cricklade Town Council Offices at a later time of 10.30 am. on Friday the 13th. December 2013. The Walk was led by Rose for an hours walk which included the millennium woods. The weather was white/ dark clouds with a possibility of rain. Continue reading

Two bodies found by Cricklade Health Walkers- Police not involved !

On Friday morning on the 6th. December 2013 the Cricklade Health Walkers found on their circular walking route two bodies of dead Hedgehogs. One in the centre Thames Lane which had been run over and flattened. The other in the gutter of Westmill Lane . Continue reading

Over the past 18 days, there has been four house burglaries which have been reported to us in the Cricklade area. Although some suspects have been arrested in connection with all four burglaries, the crimes are still being actively investigated by the Priority Crime Team from Swindon Gablecross Police station. If anyone has any information which can assist officers with their ongoing enquiries, please either contact us on 101 or you can make an anonymous report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Can we ask the local residents of Cricklade to remain extra vigilant over the next few weeks and to report any suspicious activity to us by telephone – 101 non-emergency or 999 for an emergency.

The 437(T) Sqdn, Royal Canadian Air Force attends the Cricklade Royal British Legion Remembrance Day Parade.

RBL90logo1The Cricklade Branch of the Royal British Legion  are holding their Annual Parade and Remembrance Parade and Service this weekend. The 437(T) Sqdn, Royal Canadian Air Force, (formed at Blakehill Farm in 1944)  will join with the Cricklade Royal British Legion, Crickladelogo302 Band, Civic and uniformed groups on Sunday for the Remembrance Day Parade and wreath-laying service.
